2019 Special Section: Cancer in the Oldest Old
This year's special section profiles cancer in adults ages 85 and older, sometimes referred to as the oldest old, including data on incidence, mortality, survival, and treatment and discusses some of the unique challenges affecting these patients. It is intended to inform anyone interested in learning more about cancers in the oldest old, including policy makers, researchers, clinicians, cancer control advocates, patients, and caregivers.
In 2019, there will be approximately 140,690 cancer cases diagnosed and about 103,250 cancer deaths among the oldest old in the US. Cancer in the oldest old accounts for 8% of all cases diagnosed in the US but 17% of all cancer deaths.
